JG's Late Breaking News

Hi Jerry
Here are the professional photos taken at the show, and some information: JG Diana won the Colts & Fillies 1 - 2 year old class at Horse of the Year on 09 February 2010 held at Kyalami Equestrian Park, in Johannesburg, South Africa. There were 9 entries in total, including Warmbloods, Arabs, Welsh, Andalusians,Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse - all from the top studs in South Africa. The judge was Bridget Millington, international master judge from the UK. She was extremely impressed with Diana and highly complimentary about her. Diana went through to the Youngstock Championships where the judge told Guy that Diana was her favourite of all the entries, but needed a little more work on getting her 'rhythm' right when she trotted out, otherwise Diana would have placed as Champion Youngstock overall. She felt she just needed a little more experience. A 3 year old Arab pipped her to the post at the end. It was a sweltering Highveld day of well over 30C (86F) and Diana behaved like a star at her first ever show. This is no mean feat for a yearling who was very recently imported from the Northern Hemisphere and she has coped very well with the change of climate and missing out on a winter season and having to lose her winter coat in the extreme heat! Due to her class having colts and fillies, she also had to contend with the very vocal and hyper-active Welsh colt next to her. Also, whilst waiting outside the arena for her class to start, she had to put up with a Warmblood stallion who broke free from his handler and made straight for Diana. She took it all in her stride. Whilst making our way to the arena, a large class was being judged in another arena alongside and a couple of handlers stopped dead in their tracks to exclaim how beautiful she was!
All the best Michele
PS. I think I forgot to tell you that when Guy entered the arena, the brand new leather lead rein snapped! It then proceeded to snap in three other places, so poor Guy was beside himself that he would find himself holding half a lead rein while Diana gave an impromptu display in the middle of the line up! I spent the first 10 minutes they were in the ring running around trying to locate another lead rein. And, the grass in the arena was so thick and long that I don't think Diana trusted it fully. She's used to our sparse grass and hard going at home, and this must've felt really alien to her. She did really well, considering the terrible heat and a couple of unruly horses. Hold thumbs for the 22nd March when she'll be in the Autumn Gold Cup!

Received from Deborah Fitts, April, 08… Wap StarlightExpress, aka Ellie, is by Wap Spot and out of ‘Fergie’. Ellie is a full sister to Clara and Waps Serenade.
Hi Virginia, Hope all is well there! Thought you might enjoy some of these pictures of Ellie, the lovely little filly I bought from you in 2004. She has just now turned 4 (can't believe it!), and these pictures were taken as she progressed into starting to jump last fall and this winter (I moved to California a year ago, by the way - much more horse-friendly weather than Utah!). She is a wonderful athlete with a great work ethic, a joy to be around, and I can't wait for her to make her debut this summer in the Baby Green Hunter divisions - I have no doubt she will give those warmbloods a run for their money! She is just enormous too, by the way - last time I checked she was a solid 16.3h. :-) Sincerely, Deborah Scanlon Fitts
What a lovely big mare she has grown into. I’m sure she’ll be a star. Virginia

Received from Linda Huntley, 3/20/08.
Hi Virginia, just wanted to drop you a note to update you on Mocha. She is
doing aawwssome! What a smart filly! Any thing I ask of her she does without
question! She is 14-2 hands at 10 months old! She is so sweet, must of got that
from her dad, cause her mom is a grooch. I would say you have GREAT studs, and
they pass on some great genes!!!!!! No spots, just a little white around her
mouth, but she is shedding, so we will see! She is marbled black and grulla and
still has her strip from head to tip of her tail. If you know anyone that is
looking to show a great filly I am willing to free lease her to the right farm.
Oh and I have never seen such a full mane and tail on an appy before! It is
total wonderful to be able to brush one of their manes and tails! Have a great
day!
Linda

Mocha now has mottling around her mouth and under her tail. She should have some spots under her winter hair.

Added January 2008, Waps Stepping Out, winner of the 2007 Appaloosa Sport Horse USDF All Breeds Awards and currently in first place for the Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Actives Program in Dressage.
Waps Stepping Out is a 2003 son of Wap Spot. His dam
is Heritage Holly, a solid bay daughter of King Goer. He’s 80% FPD.
Waps Stepping Out was shown as a yearling in the 2004 USDF Midwest
Regional Breeder’s Championship Series. His in-hand score was an impressive
68.1%. He earned reserve champion as a yearling colt and third place as a
young stallion against a field of warmbloods.
Waps Stepping Out is currently making his debut in the dressage show
ring. After only thre is earning scores in the
upper 60's and consistently winning classes. He has qualified for the
Midwest Dressage championships and the Central States Championships. He is
also ranked on the Appaloosa Horse Club's ACAAP top 10 list.

‘Moose” is a 2003 gelding by Wap Spot, out of Merrylegs. Merrylegs was a gray mare
standing about 14.2. She looked like a pretty Welsh cross.
Breeder/owner: Pam Knight, Bel Air, Maryland
Here are some pictures of Moose, age 4. He is a wonderful mover, has a great attitude and
learns quick. He can do 3 sets of 4 tempi changes and he is working towards
piafe. I’ve not put any pressure on him. He’s just easy going.
I had him at a dressage clinic. Evelyn Susoal said, “he was put together nicely, he has
great movement and his canter is wonderful.”
I’m having the best time with him.

Wow, what a nice big boy he's growing up to be. I can't wait to see how he's
doing in a couple of years.

More on Nikki's win
Hi, Virginia. I got my year-end California Dressage Society (CDS) newsletter
and there was more good news about Nikki's first place in Colts/Geldings. The
warmblood who was second in his class was not just some mediocre horse. His name
is Almarion and he won the CDS 2007 Reserve Champion year-end colts/geldings
title. I was pretty pleased that Nikki won against such stiff competition. I
also found out that Almarion is one of my vet's patients. He is owned by a
serious warmblood breeder who has invested major bucks in him in the hopes that
he will be their next superstar! They were also hoping to stand him as a
stallion, but they had to geld him because of his less than perfect temperament.
My vet performed the castration and agreed wholeheartedly that he needed it!
Anyway, I'm excited about Nikki's potential after winning a class like that
straight out of the pasture after just two weeks of ground training. He was also
at his most gangly growth stage last summer, and has since started filling out
nicely. I've attached a photo taken at the beginning of November and you can see
a big difference from the show pictures. Just think what he will be capable of
after winning a class at his "worst"!
It's all uphill from here!
Vanessa

Wap Stole the Show (Rio), by Waps Applause. Owned by Carol Hebert
HI
Just wanted to forward a few photos of Wap Stole the Show (Rio).
Today was his first 'big' schooling show off the farm. After the initial
shock of stepping off the trailer and not knowing why he was there, once
under
saddle he settled in and had a nice test.
Under his rider, Kylee Snow they scored 54.4% in Training 4. I think the
ride was better than what the score reflected but it was in a shortened
arena
which they weren't used to and the wind was picking up and it was
threatening
to pour any minute.
A few weeks ago 'at the farm' they scored 63.2% nabbing Reserve Champion.
(Breckenridge Farm)
In previous tests I had shown him; Breckenridge Fall Schooling Show 2005
- Intro A, Intro B, and spring 2006 Training 1 and received fair scores
(which I"ll have to dig out if you want them).
My boy has a lot of potential, big movement and likes to show off.
Carol

"Waps Reflective Dancer, aka “Kevin”. Sire: Waps
Reflection Dam: Brenda’s Dancer (TB)
Breeder: JG Appaloosa Sport Horses
Owner: Sue Myers, Easton, Md.
A little background… Kevin was sold by us as a two year old. Circumstances resulted in our regaining ownership when he was four years old. We then sold him to Pam Titus of Miles River Farm in Easton, Md. Pam sold him to Sue Myers this past summer. It’s a match made in Heaven…
Hi Virginia,
I’ve heard so much about you, I feel like I know you. I have been riding
Kevin since Pam Titus bought him from you last March. Last week, I finally
had to “bite the bullet” and purchase him from her, because I cannot imagine
life without him. He is the sweetest boy, and a very fast learner. I just
took him to his first horse show, and he got pinned in every class! It was
the first time he had jumped a complete course, and he acted as if he does
it all the time.
I have a question for you- once when I was reviewing your website I thought
I saw in one area where Kevin was referred to as “Wap’s Reflective Dancer.”
Has that name been already given to one of his siblings, or may he use that
in shows? Pam always wants the Wap name used, but I did not want to borrow
it if it has already been used. Personally, I have become quite fond of his
name (Kevin), and I LOVE the story of how he obtained it. Your friend,
Kevin, should be pleased to know that his namesake couldn’t be a cooler guy,
and that he is very well loved. I will email you a current picture of him
when I can.
Thank you for making such great horses!

“Shelby”, a weanling filly by Waps Rolls Royce, out of Mac Marshall Memory (app mare), WON the weanling filly class at the Maryland State Fair, August 2007. On September 29, 2007, Shelby placed 3rd in the Pa Hunter Breeder Futurity. Shelby was bred by and owned by Megan Albracht.
From Megan:
Took Shelby to the PA Hunter Breeder Futurity this past
Saturday. She did great! They had three judges, and the first 3 places
were totaled as close as they could be ( 22, 21, 20) she placed 3rd out of
8. She was very well behaved despite the wind. She senses
the camera and always tries to ham it up. Here's a picture I took, she was tired, ready to go
home.
July 22, 2007
Hi, Virginia, Hope all is well.
I am absolutely thrilled; I took Nikki (Waps Modern Art) to a USEF/USDF breed
show today at Creek Hollow Ranch and he got a 74.9 in Dressage Sport Horse
Prospects In Hand, 2 Year Old Colts/Geldings. It was his first outing away from
home ever (besides when he was shipped here)! He also got RESERVE CHAMPION in
the Colts/Geldings USDFBC Championship (Sport Horse Prospect) qualifier. I'm so
proud of him. He was the best behaved young horse there and made a great
impression on everyone. The Champion (which, of course, was a warmblood) acted
absolutely horrible, kicking at his handler and refusing to trot, etc. on cue.
He was so bad that his owner came up to me at the end of the class and said
"Trade ya!" I just laughed but was thinking "NO WAY!"
The judge really liked him even though she had a few negative comments from the
people around her because he's an Appaloosa. My friend overheard her snap at
them and say "I'm NOT judging spots." She's a great judge and has my lasting
respect. She gave him an 8 for General Impression and underlined the test where
it says "Demonstrates character, presence & temperament necessary for training.
Shows potential to become a competitive dressage horse & progress through the
levels. Riding horse type."
It was one of the best days of my life even though I'm exhausted. It was 90
degrees and very humid so we pretty well did nothing but sweat!
I brought Chino , (Waps Avante Garde: Waps Reflection X Waps Tiger Lily) with us
but didn't ride him since I don't start taking lessons with Susann Regalmuto
until next week. I didn't think he was ready and didn't want his first show to
be a bad experience for both of us. He just came along for the ride and stood in
a stall and quietly ate his hay in the middle of a bunch of screaming and
kicking warmbloods. I have him signed-up for Intro Level at the same venue in
Sept. I got lots of complements on him, as well, and one gal shouted "What a
sweet-looking Appaloosa!" I can't wait to get him out there, as well. I'll be
sending photos of him and will probably pop for a professional video which I'll
also send.
Thanks for breeding such wonderful horses. So far, I've trained both of them
myself and it's been nothing but a pleasure. They're definitely special.
In my excitement, I forgot to mention that Nikki got FIRST PLACE in the 2yr
old colt/geldings with his score of 74.90!
Vanessa
Waps Modern Art, aka Nikki, is a two year old gelding by Wap Spot and out of

and movement.
Vanessa also has Waps Avante Garde by Waps Reflection and out of Waps Tiger
Lily. Both have nice big blankets with big spots. Very obviously appaloosas.

Wap Spot and Waps Millennium were a big hit at the Horse World Expo, Harrisburg, Pa. Feb 22-25, 2007. Perfect gentleman, they got lots of petting and scratching from the 1000s of people who stopped by their stalls. Pictures were taken during the stallion demo. More expo picture can be seen on their stallion info pages.

Wap's Wild Willie, aka Dion. Fancy and very broke 1998 dark bay gelding, about 16.1 + hands. Multiple ApHC National and World Champion Hunter. He is also very competitive on the open hunter circuit. Hi Virginia,
This was the USDF/State Line Tack/Oregon Dressage Society Adult
Team show on April 23-25th, 2004. We did our two tests - Intro A and got a
67% (2nd out of 11 horses) and Intro B and got a 63% (4th out of 11 horses).
My team placed 2nd in our division with an average of 64.4% (the winning team
only had a 64.7% average) so Cider really helped with her scores. I was
especially impressed since it was her first show and she has really only been
under saddle for a month and a half. I had only ridden her about 10 times

A "B" show, Beginner Hunters - big classes - he got a 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th.
Then Coppergate "A" show in the Baby Green division with a large bunch of fancy horses and he got a 3rd, 4th, and 6th. (3rd. in the NJPHA class over fences). We love this horse and we have the 2 year old home in the field; he's great too." Bill

Opening day at the Equine Affaire was standing room only, due to the Veteran's Day holiday. This is the first year I've gone and actually had to wait in line for almost a half hour to get in!
Probably what I look forward to most is seeing what Appaloosas are there to represent our breed. I love seeing all the breeds, from the Friesians to Gypsy Cobs to the little Miniature burro and her tiny newborn foal (I wanted to take that one home in my pocket!). I control myself and go up and down each aisle but I really want to go directly to the Appaloosa spot and feast my eyes.
I had seen "Waps Infinity" (a.k.a. "Chipper") in the Pavilion earlier. He was napping in his stall when I first saw him at the Equine Affaire in 2002, so I really didn't get a good look at him. Chipper was holding court in the main barn when I caught up to him later. He is a big, gorgeous two-year-old stallion by the late, great stallion Waps Reflection and out of the Appaloosa mare Waps Confetti (also the dam of Wap Spot). His face is bay with darker bay spots and he looks like he was chiseled by a master sculptor! He's already a big boy and looks even bigger with his sparkling pure white coat dotted by large bay halo spots -- absolutely beautiful! Limited breedings will be available to Chipper in 2005.
Waps Millennium (Wap's Spot 2 x Waps Malaika - a Reflection daughter) was also present this year. The 2000 stallion is 16.2 hands, dark grulla with the distinctive "Wap" spotted blanket. Again, a beautifully chiseled head on a magnificently powerful body. The bone and legs on these boys have to be seen to be appreciated.
Virginia Hood and her husband Jerry operate JG Appaloosa Sport Horses in Biglerville, Pa. -- home of the "Wap" line of Sport Horses. They have been breeding Appaloosas for thirty-five years for all disciplines. They also brought along a few younger horses to Springfield, including a young filly and some colts. All the horses seemed to have very sweet temperaments -- especially the stallions! There were people all over Chipper, oohing and aahing and petting him (including me) -- he was in heaven! Check them out for yourself at www.jgappaloosas.com Just seeing the Wap Spot boys makes the whole trip worthwhile for me!

Photos were taken soon after weaning.
JG Appaloosa Sport Horses is proud to announce the purchase of "Bentley" from Lori Fong. Bentley is by Waps Rolls Royce (Wap's Spot 2 X Fergie) and out of Wap n Jazz (Wap's Spot 2 X Te Frost). Our plans are to see how he matures as a possible stallion prospect. Not only is he a double grandson of Wap's Spot 2, but he is a true snow cap so he will be homozygous fro throwing color.
Hi,
Just wanted to update you on "Hattie", (Wap's Hat Trick), by Waps Applause. She is Eventing successfully at the Novice level, showing Children's Hunters at the rated shows, and hunting first flight with Green Spring Valley Hounds. she qualified for the North American Junior Field Hunter Championship, by being selected at a qualifying meet with Piedmont Hunt (Middleburg, VA.). She placed 7th in the Field Hunter Championship in the 14 and under first flight division.
Hattie was also overall Champion at the Green Spring Hounds Hunter Trials in October 2004, winning the Non-Tb as well as the Open Hunter Class, and placing 2nd in the Master's Class.
